Head Gasket
I blew the head gasket a few weeks ago. You can see it blew at #1, with just a compression leak, and #2 and #3 were also deformed. I was running way too much timing, accidentally, and the pinging under boost blew it.
It turns out, when I locked my distributor advance, I botched the job and left the mechanical advance functioning. I have since fixed that. Tip - set your megasquirt to a fixed angle of 20 degrees, and ensure that the timing stays at 20 degrees as you rev the engine across the board. Mine didn't...
The replacement head gasket and intake / exhaust manifold gaskets are Nissan-style from MSA. I installed the head gasket dry, with ARP studs, and used copper-kote on the intake / exhaust gasket. I used a soft handle screwdriver to affix the timing chain while I did the work - some people use a wooden wedge instead. I used this as an opportunity to tidy up some wiring for the injectors, and also powder coat some bolts and the thermostat housing.
